STOP! - Before you upgrade that...is it worth doing?

Every year Remodeling Magazine publishes their Cost vs Value survey on the thirty five top remodeling projects homeowners carry out showing if they add value or not.

So before you upgrade that whatever check the survey, you will find the results interesting if not helpful before you decide on moving ahead with certain projects. There are very few projects where you get the value back on the project cost.

As I always tell clients. "Don't wait till you are selling to make upgrades, they are never cost effective. Do things whilst you live in the house and have the benefit of living with them and enjoying them." Often sellers of real estate need to do some upgrades to make a home more saleable, the other option is to price it significantly lower than other homes in the neighborhood allowing for the remodeling that any new owner needs to do. However, I have yet to find any homeowner who agrees with me initially just how much lower they need to price their home. 

Another piece of advice, before listing your home for sale, have a contractor in to remedy all those annoying little things you live with everyday. If they come up on a home inspection they will cost a lot more to fix than if you take care of them now beforehand.

So, enjoy the report, choose your project and enjoy the results before you sell your home.
