Longtime meat and fish purveyor in Wayne Floyd K. Alderfer, 82, died on October 5.

At age 19, Floyd began a business in Wayne called Floyd K. Alderfer Meats, which was based in Harleysville, where he lived.

Sixty-two years later he closed the business in the Lancaster County Farmer’s Market at age 81, according to his obituary. The business had been located in the market since 1977; before that it was in the 100 block of East Lancaster Avenue in downtown Wayne.

He was the husband of Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Ott) Alderfer for 63 years.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, according to his obituary.

Some people commented on the farmers market's Facebook page that Alderfer was "a welcomed smile every week" and "an icon I will never forget."

In July the farmers market lost another beloved vendor employee, Melvin Landis.
