Liane D. Laplace Chapman

Washington, Maine — Former St. Davids resident Liane Delphine Laplace Chapman died Nov. 23, 2013, at her home in Washington.

She is survived by her husband Henry, daughter Delphine Sherin, son Walter, and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Chapman is also survived by her brothers Ernest and Roger Laplace and sister Jacqueline Roach.

Liane graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy in Philadelphia and from Rosemont College, then earned master's degrees from Bryn Mawr College and Villanova University. Liane taught English Literature for 20 years at Merion Mercy Academy, 12 of those years as department head.

After retiring to Maine, she immersed herself in her community. She was loved and appreciated by many for her work at the library and in other town activities. Liane's children treasure her gifts to them of a love of the arts and of the natural world. She will be remembered for her generosity, her wonderful sense of humor and her respect for learning and knowledge. Liane's family is very grateful for all the support from friends and relatives during her difficult illness.
