Hey, Did You See Tom's Crane At The Re-Dedication?

I have really enjoyed looking at the pictures all week on Patch that were taken at the re-dedication of the Radnor War Memorial on Tuesday night. I could not resist taking this one myself when I saw photographer Tom Crane most carefully held aloft on the long arm of one of Radnor Fire Company's fire trucks. And yes, Radnor Police were there too...the other long arm.

The librarians at Radnor Memorial Library are very proud to be part of the Saving Hallowed Ground initiative, making ourselves available to guide the student researchers when they come in the Library. Paul Mathison, project volunteer, has also helped David Heacock's eighth-graders at St. Katharine of Siena School  research the life histories of the fallen World War I soldiers whose names are on the memorial. We are really sharpening our skills on Ancestry Library Edition, the library-use-only database that has given us most of the history on the servicemen and servicewoman who are being researched.

I sense the students are feeling very close to their community at this time as a result of their study into the past on the fallen heroes. We sit at computers, all crowded together at the Memorial Library, and stare at vintage documents, see where they died and what they died of, see the names of their parents, their siblings. We find out they are buried here in town or nearby. I hear my student say she wanted to visit "my soldier's grave"...
