Former Carroll Athletic Director Sentenced

Francis Murphy was convicted on charges of having improper contact with a former Archbishop High School football player.

More than a year and a half after being arrested and charged with having improper contact with a former football player, Francis Murphy, 40 is being sent to state prison to serve a 5-23 month sentence.

The formal charge as outlined by the Montgomery County (where Murphy was arrested) District Attorney was "Unlawful Contact or Communication with a Minor, Promoting Prostitution, Corruption of Minors, Attempted Corruption of Minors, and related offenses."

Murphy was convicted of offering to become a boy's "sugar daddy" in return for helping the student retreive a pair of cleats the student left behind after leaving Archbishop John Caroll High School in Radnor.

Murphy, who was the school's Athletic Director until the time of his arrest had recruited the student to play football for the Carroll team.

According to a report on Main Line Media News, Murphy has been ordered to report to prison Monday to begin serving his sentence.
