Ithan Accident Victims Still in Hospital

Brothers in serious car accident had been cited for intoxication days earlier.

Two Wayne brothers who were involved in a serious car crash on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at South Radnor-Chester and Newtown roads had been cited for public intoxication and drug possession two days earlier in town.

According to Radnor Police, Michael Ciccarelli, 20, and John Ciccarelli, 23, both of Wayne, were trapped inside a Jeep Cherokee after a one-car accident Wednesday around 6:30 a.m. at the Villanova intersection.

Two nights prior, on Monday, Feb. 21 at about 11:15 p.m. police found two hypodermic needles in the pocket of Michael Ciccarelli after observing him and his brother “intoxicated” inside the Wawa in Wayne. Police said Michael later admitted to injecting heroin before being arrested.

Both men were cited for public intoxication. Michael Ciccarelli was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

After the accident Wednesday Michael Ciccarelli was flown to Hahnemann University Hospital. His brother was flown to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Two other people were in the car and were taken to area hospitals.

According to police, as of Friday, Feb. 25, one brother was in critical condition and one was stable. The crash is still under investigation by Radnor’s Traffic Safety Unit.
