New Details on Attempted Robbery in Wayne Parking Lot

The man who unsuccessfully attempted to rob a woman at knife point on June 18 had been drinking beforehand, it is believed.

The man who reportedly tried to rob a 25-year-old woman at knifepoint in the Bellevue Park and Walk parking lot in Wayne on the evening of June 18 had likely been drinking brandy beforehand, according to police.

According to the incident report for the attempted robbery of a White Dog Cafe employee, two plastic cigar tips and two empty plastic bottles of Christian Brothers Brandy were found in an area of trees around the parking lot, which is at the corner of Lancaster and South Bellevue avenues.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday, June 18, the woman was sitting inside her car after leaving work when a man wearing a ski mask ran up to her car and pulled her out of it.

According to the police report, he tried to take her purse, but she struggled against him and both people ended up on the ground. The victim kicked the would-be mugger and screamed. He then ran away towards West Avenue.

An employee of AT&T told police that he heard screaming around that time, but thought it was children playing.
