Police: Woman Tried To Buy $34k Rolex With Bad Credit Cards

An employee of Bernie Robbins jewelers in Radnor says he knew something was wrong.

A few months after at in Wayne, another type of theft was attempted.

But this time it was thwarted by a seasoned and quick-thinking employee.

Store manager Gad Azuelos told Radnor Patch that on May 29 when 28-year-old Tasnim Jeffries walked into the store from its side door (which he said is unusual) in hospital scrubs and set her eye on a $34,7000 gold Rolex (a rare purchase) it was just the start of a string of odd things.

Jeffries was from Brooklyn, New York but said she was working in King of Prussia. She did not want to place any orders for a Rolex, she only wanted to take something they had right there in the store — even if it did not fit what she originally said she wanted, Azuelos said, retelling the story.

“Sometimes you know something is weird,” he said.

These things tipped Azuelos off, but more, he remembered an email that had circulated with her name in it as a person who had tried unsuccessfully to purchase high-priced items at other Bernie Robbins stores.

Azuelos kept her waiting in the store while he searched for the email and called police.

He said he returned to his waiting would-be customer and told her simply that he would not sell to her because of her credit card issues. She finally left the store, and was approached by police in the parking lot.

Jeffries, according to police, had eight active credit cards in her purse, but they were issued to various international banks and “were part of an identity theft operation.”

She has been charged with criminal attempt, theft by deception, access device fraud and identity theft.
