Radnor Fire Co. Hires New ALS Coordinator

The Radnor Fire Company is creating an in-house Advanced Life Support program.

The Board of Directors and Fire/Ambulance Officers of Radnor Fire Company has hired John J. Buffington, III as Radnor Fire Company’s new Advanced Life Support (ALS) Coordinator.

Buffington is a nationally registered paramedic who has served as a full-time paramedic and firefighter with the Malvern Fire Company since 1998.

The Radnor Fire Company is creating an in-house ALS program; in the past it contracted out those services. It has an in-house Basic Life Support service.

Most notably in his time at Malvern, Buffington initiated all phases of the implementation of a Tactical EMS Team to support the West Chester Regional Emergency Response Team (SWAT), according to Radnor Fire Company.

He has served as the EMS Team Leader of this unit since 2004 and is responsible for the supervision and ongoing management of this program.

Buffington holds an Associate’s Degree from the Delaware County Community College and received the award for clinical excellence while attending Paramedic school at the Albert Einstein Medical Center EMS Training Institute.

He has additional Fire/EMS experience in volunteer and combination systems with the Berwyn Fire Company, Uwchlan Ambulance Corps. and Crozer EMS. He also served as a Lieutenant with the West Chester Fire Department (Goodwill) with responsibilities for RIT training and driver/operator instruction.  

Buffington started the job in early April and joined the ALS Implementation Committee as it integrates ALS into its existing EMS system.
