Radnor Raccoon Did Have Rabies, Tests Show

Police have located the woman who had contact with the sick animal, and she will take any necessary medical steps.

The sick raccoon found and euthanized in Radnor Township over the weekend did in fact have rabies, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported to the township Tuesday afternoon.

Additionally, the woman who had contact with the sick animal has been located, and she will take any necessary medical steps, township officials said.

Radnor Police responded to a call Saturday about a violent raccoon at the Wayne Post Office on South Wayne Avenue, township officials said.

The animal was growling and hissing at Post Office patrons, police said. According to witnesses, it had made contact with a woman, knocking her over. The woman left the area before police arrived, officials said, though she has since been in touch with officials.

The animal eventually was located on West Wayne Avenue and was euthanized.
