Recent Wayne Burglaries Likely Related, Police Say

There have been six residential burglaries in Radnor Township since April 23. Police believe many of these were done by the same people or person.

Six residential burglaries have taken place in the township since April 23. Radnor Police believe that the four that took place in Wayne—on Chamounix Road, Walnut Avenue and Eagle Road—are somehow related to each other.

Three of the six houses had doors that were apparently unlocked while the home was vacant, noted Lt. Andy Block. And all, except for one in Radnor, were houses that back up to the R-5 rail line, police have noted.

For burglaries like these, the point is to get in and out of a home quickly and to get out of the area right away. There are not usually more than one burglary committed in during one day, Block said.

Evidence of this quick getaway—burglars are targeting small items that are easy to hide: jewelry. Note that there are no expensive electronics touched, not even iPads.

So what can be done? Always lock your doors and windows, even if you are in the back yard. Make sure plants and bushes don't hide a door or window so that a person could be working on opening it while being shielded from site.

And, Block said, what is most important: "Awareness is huge. If you see something, say something."

For every one Radnor Township police officer there are approximately 1,000 residents, which means people need to be the eyes and ears of the community.
