RHS Grad Faces Child Pornography Charges

Police say Neil Geckle altered and reposted images from four girls' Facebook pages.

19-year-old Neil Geckle of Wayne is facing charges of child pornography after police say he took images of four girls from their respective Facebook pages and altered them in a sexually graphic way and reposted them online.

The Internet Crimes Against Children section of the Delaware County District Attorney's Criminal Investigation Division joined the Radnor Township Police Department in filing the charges.

According to a news release, Geckle confessed his actions to police.

Charges against him include child pornography, disseminating a photograph of child sex acts, and designing obscene material.

The charges stem from an incident reported on February 29.

On April 26 Geckle was taken to Delaware County prison after he was unable to post bail of $100,000 cash.

What are you referring to? The charges?

This makes me want to make my kids cancel their FB accounts. Creepy.
Just me April 27, 2012 at 05:08 PM
So disturbing ... I wouldn't make them cancel their accounts but monitor them regularly. So creepy ...
zach April 27, 2012 at 05:11 PM
I knew this kid for years. They made him look like somebody that hes not. Love how people talk shit about him when hes not even here to defend himself. Like get out.
Just me April 27, 2012 at 05:27 PM
Nobody is talking "s---". There was evidence and he confessed to the police that he did what he was accused of doing.
zach April 27, 2012 at 05:30 PM
If you were friends with him on facebook you would know what i mean..

Tell us the real story then.

I can't wait to hear the absurd justifications and why this vile punk is a great guy.
Tom Dougherty April 27, 2012 at 07:17 PM
Well, I guess zach won't be called as a character witness at Mr. Geckle's sentencing hearing.

Dont listen to him...hes just trying to make a scene

1 in 3 girls, 1 in 6 boys will be abused before they are 18. how many kids in your child's classroom are one of these numbers? it's tragic to know that one may have become the abuser -- but he was caught first. Most aren't.

Geckle had worked at one of the computer games stores in town, was well known and is still connected at the school. RHS students who know Geckle seemed to think he was an ok guy. Nothing OK about this. It took stupid Facebook posts and practical jokes to a whole new -- criminal -- level and these kids are shocked. Maybe other students will think twice about the FB postings they leave.

You are right, there is nothing okay about this..........however with all of the changes in technology, I am not sure anyone is prepared for just what can and does occur. While his behavior *if true is awful, I wonder if this is the new "obscene phone call" of the next generation? I am not sure that child pornography is the truest of definitions for this case. I am not defending this young man and his supposed actions, but I am wondering if our gut reactions to this are driving the charges here and not the appropriate use of the law?

Mr. Dougherty, Before you wish to continue this ridiculously one-sided debate with someone who might have once known my family member first consider the fact you're listening to blasphemous media outcry on the full case of criminal charges. While I directly disagree with the actions he had committed such as re posting these photos, you need to also know the definition of Child Pornography. There is no evidence that he should be charged seven counts of child pornography is these females were clothed and not nude or doing sexual acts. Those 'seven counts' should not have even stood in the court of law. Altering and reposting, now yes, that is understandable. You're jumping on the media wagon full of bullshit along with most people nowadays because they cannot even get their facts straight. Funny thing too regarding comments on here when I see the abusers versus those who are abused. Do you know exactly how this child lived his life or how he grew up? No. Do you know any background on them? No. Do you feel it's right to directly sit at home without knowing anything at all and because of one action committed jumping onto the whole ideal of, "yup, he's a scumbag," without giving direct though of how his family feels? To know who he was before this was? Watching the media pound on the door to try to interview for the sake of your five minutes worth of bad news? You'll move on without knowing the guy. FYI, this isn't a facebook friend. This is family. So lay off.

Catherine, You also might want to consider as parents of the students actually monitoring what is done online. Do you know what your child posts? Do you know what they do? Do you know what groups there in? Welcome to the age of the internet, the old generation doesn't know what they're doing. How about you start talking to people about it and educating them on what is just and not just. Another point I'd like to bring up, people on the internet can be anything they want. For all you know those directly affected could have even said they were eighteen or older on their account without them really being so.

I feel sorry for Neil for what he and his family are facing and I also feel sorry for the girls and their families. I know one of the girls and this has been tough on her, she's a good kid who did not know him at all. he confessed his actions ... It is disturbing to me as the mother of a teenage girl that this occurred and that a file with 12 other photos of girls was found in his home. I also have boys and all of my children have been delivered a stern message about what is okay and not okay on Facebook, Twitter, text, etc. I do think his actions were predatory, lewd and creepy and he needs to be punished. I am not convinced this is Child Pornography. I feel so sorry for all of the families, including his, that this is affecting.
Tom Dougherty April 29, 2012 at 05:22 PM
Stormy: If the printed allegations are correct and Mr. Geckle (he is 19 and not a child), there is no possible justification for sending pictures of his penis to underage girls. I do not care if he had a difficult life or didn't have a puppy growing up or whatever absurd excuses will be used to defend this vile act.
justwondering April 29, 2012 at 05:39 PM
Mr. Dougherty - it is possible to make your point without being so mean spirited in your responses. Your seemingly rigid intolerance is not attractive......go check your own kids' facebook page and then get back to us.........................no one is trying to excuse the behavior of Mr. Geckle - what we are grappling with is the charge of Child Pornography.......
Bill Nut April 29, 2012 at 08:30 PM
I guess some parts of what Stormy is saying is true. Girls in RHS are disgusting and post very lewd photos of themselves drinking (We have the parents to thank for that!) and doing other un-highschool like things everyday. Never the less, Neil has to be charged with something because what he did was sick and wrong.
Tom Dougherty April 29, 2012 at 08:55 PM
You are correct. I am completely intolerant of adult men sending pictures of their genitals to children.
Stormy April 29, 2012 at 10:01 PM
Mr Dougherty, I did not say merely his actions were inexcusable. Why he would do such a thing and why he would commit such a crime I really could not tell you; and I'm not saying they are excusable. Looking over the court record each charge and on the count of charges against him all would make sense, EXCEPT Child pornography. In most cases of what is considered child pornography is the graphic or indecent exposure of the one underage. He is not keeping child pornography; however, he has done wrong, I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm more concerned about the family members of all parties involved INCLUDING Neil and my family. There have been news reporters slamming on the door every day just to get an interview. Just to get the latest news report out into the public so everyone knows of it. He already destroyed his reputation and now the media and people's comments are just going to do worse. Now, I do feel horrible for the families of the girls as well but, he's behind bars and will be an offender for the rest of his life. If I said pull him out early, I'd say it. I know the difference. Bill, that is exactly what I'm getting at and that is not just at Radnor. It is ANYWHERE now a days. People are jumping into social media and talking to strangers they don't even know, let alone if they really are. People take pictures of drugs and do drugs and throw them on their facebook pages. Do you think the kids tell their family about this? No. This hurts everyone.
WayneW April 29, 2012 at 11:02 PM
lets let the courts decide..no ones input on this page will be used in the court of law anyway..lets be serious this kid is innocent until proven guilty...lets not get ahead of ourselves and have to go back and apologize for the comments made before all the facts were released..

My question here is...how could one take photos off facebook, "alter them in a sexually graphic way", and then be charged with child pornography? Not trying to defend this guy, but hear me out here. Just for arguments sake - If the facebook photos were not of a sexual/graphic nature to begin with (just a few photos of the girls) how could they be altered to be considered child pornography? Say, for instance, this guy used photoshop or something, and cut and pasted their heads (from the originial photos) onto the body of a naked woman or something (from an actual pornographic site), I dont know if that could still be considered child pornography since its not actually a naked picture of someone underage? Will be interesting to hear the details of what exactly this guy did to warrant child pornography charges, if that info ever becomes public.

I'll certainly let you know when there is an update with this case.
