Thefts Up 50 Percent in Radnor

There were 203 reported thefts in the first six months of the year.

 

One of the things I hear often from readers and residents is how they feel that crime is on a significant increase in Radnor Township. So, is this the case? Let’s look to the numbers to find out if reality is the same as perception.

For the first six months of 2012, theft was up by 47 percent from 2011 to this year, according to the Police Department’s monthly report. There were 138 reported thefts in the first six months of 2011. This year there were 203; that’s an additional 65 reported thefts, which averages out to about 10 additional thefts per month, according to the report.

There is also an increase in robberies. According to the report, there were two robberies for the first six months of 2011. This year there were eight reported.

By contrast, reports of “class two offenses” such as vandalism and DUI have fallen in the same time period. According to the monthly report, there were 62 fewer reports of vandalism and 6 fewer DUIs. In all, there was a decrease of 72 class two offenses (from 393 to 321) so far this year.
