Villanova Freshman in Wheelchair Clipped by Trash Truck

A Villanova University student suffered minor injuries from a vehicle-pedestrian accident on Saturday afternoon.

A freshman in a wheelchair was transported to Paoli Hospital for minor injuries suffered in a vehicle-pedestrian accident on the campus Saturday afternoon.

According to Cpl. Walt Sherman, Radnor police responded to the scene of the accident by the university's Connelly Center at approximately 12:47 p.m.

A university-owned trash truck was parked in an alleyway by the Connelly Center at which time the female student in the wheelchair was crossing the alleyway in the same direction towards the trash truck, said Sherman.

According to Sherman, the driver of the truck returned back to the vehicle after making a stop and began moving the truck forward without seeing the student, who was now in front of the truck's passenger side.

Sherman said the front wheel of the truck then clipped the back wheel of the wheelchair, knocking the student out of the wheelchair.
