Former Villanova Professor Found Slain

Carol Ambruster was an astronomy and astrophysics professor at the school until 2011.

A former Villanova University professor was found stabbed to death Monday in her apartment in Germantown.

Carol Ambruster, 69, was found about 9 p.m. Monday with stab wounds to her neck and chest in the blood-spattered kitchen of her apartment, reports Philly.com.

Ambruster started at Villanova in 1987, and taught at the university until retiring in 2011. Her title was Assistant Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics, according to Villanova.

Villanova released a statement on her death: "The University was saddened to learn of the death of Carol Ambruster, and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends."

Police recovered the knife used to kill her at the scene, Philly.com reported.
