Wayne Hotel Guest Claims Jewelry Theft

A Virginia woman told police that more than $3,000 in jewels was taken from her bag.

A Virginia woman told Radnor Police that she believes that more than $3,000 in jewelry was taken from her room while she stayed at the .

According to the police report, the woman stayed at the hotel from June 7 to 10.

On June 8 she discovered a bag missing that contained a pair of gold earrings, a diamond pendant and cubic zirconia earrings, the police report states.

The general manager of the Wayne Hotel, David Brennan, made this statement on Wednesday, July 11:

As of this writing, the Wayne Hotel has yet to receive any report from any guest or from the police regarding an alleged theft.

We are perplexed that this guest claims to have discovered the item missing during her stay at the hotel but made no report to the hotel’s management or staff.  While we are concerned that the guest did not contact the police until almost three weeks after allegedly discovering the item missing, we look forward to the opportunity to cooperate with any investigation.

Our guest’s security and safety is an utmost priority.  All hallways and public areas in the hotel have a state of the art security camera system and we offer safety deposit boxes to all guests at no cost.  As always, the Wayne Hotel’s management and staff remain committed to resolving any guest problems as quickly as possible.  As soon as we obtain confirmation of the accuracy of this report, we will do everything we can to assist in the matter.

Our only other prior allegation of theft in my tenure at the Wayne Hotel resulted in the guest filing a police report and later retracting the report when she found her diamond stud earrings weeks later in a side pocket of her suitcase.

The pendant the woman said was missing was valued at $3,100; the earrings at $150 and $20.

She told police that she thinks the bag was removed from her suitcase while she was out of her room.

The theft was reported to police on June 27.
