Area Votes: Less Regulation for Small Businesses, More for Student Athletes

An account of legislative votes in the General Assembly.

In Harrisburg last week, House lawmakers were active in the General Assembly. Legislators approved measures to keep school districts more informed of new students, consider small businesses before regulating, ease gun licensing restrictions on National Guard members, and increase vigilance to prevent cardiac arrest in student athletes. 

The Senate was largely inactive. Below are votes in the Pennsylvania General Assembly for House members representing Radnor.

HB823: Amending the Municipalities Planning code, the House voted 197-2, Oct. 3, on the measure. If approved by the Senate, the bill would require towns to monthly notify school district superintendents of any approved developments.

  • YES: Joseph Hackett (R-161), William Adolph Jr. (R-165), Greg Vitali (D-166)

HB1349: Passed Oct. 5 by 158-41, this bill attempts to require analysis of how legislation is to impact small businesses. Regulatory commissions would have to consider how enforcement measures impact small businesses.

HB1237: This bill changes the service requirement for members of the Pennsylvania National Guard to receive hunting licenses. In voting 199-0, Oct. 3, the House approved the measure that allows members who recently served 60 consecutive days or more to receive licenses—decreasing it by 120 days.

  • YES: Joseph Hackett (R-161), William Adolph Jr. (R-165), Greg Vitali (D-166)

HB1610: The House approved the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act by a 199-0 vote Oct. 3, which intends to decrease and create awareness for sudden death by student athletes. It also creates penalties for coaches who violate the measure.

Both the House and Senate are scheduled to reconvene Oct. 17.
