Learn About Electric Supplier Options

State Rep. Greg Vitali will hold a free seminar Thursday in Radnor.

Shopping around for electricity suppliers is something new to most Pennsylvanians.

To parse through the confusion and get questions answered, State Rep. Greg Vitali, D-Delaware, is hosting a seminar about choices available to residents for selecting their electric supplier and conservation programs.

The event, which will run from 4 to 6 p.m. on March 3 at the , 301 Iven Ave. in Wayne, will focus on how to shop for electricity and highlight different types of electric suppliers and conservation programs that save energy and money.

Speakers will include Pennsylvania Consumer Advocate Sonny Popowsky, who will give an overview of electric choice and how to save money through choosing a supplier; former Department of Environmental Protection Secretary John Hanger, who will discuss electric generation companies that produce some or all of their energy from renewable sources; and Liz Finocchio from PECO, who will outline some conservation programs that the utility offers customers.

Reservations are not necessary to attend the free event.

This ability to shop for an electric supplier is the result of provisions of the Pennsylvania Electric Generation Customer Choice and Competition Act. Residents can choose from about 20 electric supplier companies, a complete list of which can be found at the Office of Consumer Advocate Web site.
