Main Liners Rally in Harrisburg Over Gun Laws

A rally, organized by the organization Ceasefire PA, drew hundreds of people from all over the state, many from the Philadelphia area.

On Wed., Jan. 23, 48 people from the Main Line rode to the State Capitol in Harrisburg to rally in support of what they call “common sense” gun laws.

The effort to gather happened shortly after the Sandy Hook shooting and was led by Lower Merion United, a group that aims to end gun violence.

Ceasefire PA presented a document with five requests for gun laws (see it in the pdf section of this article), but Wayne’s Darla DeMorrow, who attended the rally, has just two: don’t allow assault rifles and high capacity magazines to be widely available to the public.

DeMorrow, who brought her young children with her to Harrisburg so they could share the civic experience, said nobody she talked to is against the Second Amendment.

“The people who were there on other side of the debate, their cry was ‘Don’t take away our guns’. Nobody in our crowd was anti-gun,” she said.

DeMorrow met with State Sen. Daylin Leach and aides of State Rep. Bill Adolph. She said representatives are hearing from a vocal contingent right now, so “we need to continue to be vocal.”

“We need to have discussions and stop yelling at each other,” she said. “What we’re all trying to do is protect our families.”
