Villanova Proposal Concerns Radnor Planners

Planning Commission votes against school's proposal to change Radnor's zoning for its project.

Radnor Township's Planning Commission voted against a Villanova University proposal that would allow it to build a dormitory, parking garage and performing center on the school's main parking lot on Lancaster Avenue.

The commission recommended against the plan because it does not know how it would affect the rest of the township. The members said they would rather see it come in as a land development plan under the existing ordinance as opposed to changing the township's zoning code.

"We have a large concern that what you see is not what you're going to get," said Dave Onorato, attorney for a neighbors group Friends to Preserve Radnor. Onorato said the group is concerned with what changing the township's zoning would actually allow them to do.

The allowances requested are "more generous" than what has been drawn in Villanova's concept plan, echoed resident Patty Barker.

"We need to get it right, and much closer to right than we are now," said Planning Commission member Kathy Bogosian.
