Radnor to Residents: Think About Leaving

The township asks people to consider relocating during the storm Sunday.

Radnor Township is requesting that its residents consider relocating for the duration of Hurricane Irene, which is on Sunday.

Bob Zienkowski, manager of the township, said they want to get everyone thinking about being prepared and the seriousness of the storm.

"It really is about getting everyone talking about what they need to do in the event of an emergency and what are their plans if their home or property is impacted," he said.

"Robo" phone calls went out to township residents on Thursday and documents on the township's website recommend that residents of homes that have consistent flooding issues to vacate.

"Our main concern is for the areas that are susceptible to flood impacts in which their homes sit in the flood plain," Zienkowski said.

"My second concern is since the ground is so saturated and a lot of homes have a good number of trees around or on their properties, that there is a risk of trees coming down with the rain and the significant wind force," he said.

If you leave, the township recommends you fill out a Vacant House Watch form, which will alert the police department to provide added patrols to the vacant properties and to give them access to emergency contact information if needed.

On Sunday during the storm, you can reach the township at 610-688-5606.
