Villanova Dorm Plan Moving Forward After Township OK

The Radnor Township Board of Commissioners on Monday night voted to approve needed zoning changes.

Plans by Villanova University to build dorms on Lancaster Avenue will be moving forward.

The Radnor Township Board of Commissioners on Monday night voted to approve the zoning changes needed for the project, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported

The contentious plan has been in the works for more than two years, and has drawn strong opposition from some Radnor residents.

In an existing parking lot on Lancaster Avenue, Villanova plans to build dorms, a parking garage, a bookstore and a performing arts center.

The plan also includes a pedestrian bridge over Lancaster, where thousands of students cross every day.

Critics of the proposal have said the construction will increase both noise and traffic in the area.

The dorms will allow for on-campus housing for an additional 1,200 students, the Inquirer said, and Villanova says having those students live on campus will reduce area traffic.

The zoning change was approved by a vote of 6 to 2.
