Radnor Middle School 8th Graders Fight to Squash Hunger

Radnor Middle School 8th-graders completed an array of activities that shed light on the issues surrounding hunger in the region during the school's annual "8th Grade vs. Hunger Day” on Nov. 25. The day began with a speaker from Philabundance and continued with a variety of service projects, concluding with a “canstruction” activity where students used donated canned goods to make creative shapes and structures.

The projects included decorating breakfast bags for the Salvation Army, making casseroles for the Sherwood Soup Kitchen, preparing Quick Food Fix bags and cheese sandwiches for the Patrician Society, and clipping and organizing coupons to be donated to food pantries. The students also read books about helping others to kindergarten students from the Lane Montessori School, played video games simulating hunger relief missions, and watched and discussed “Hunger Hits Home,” a Food Network film about hunger in America.

The school will continue to collect canned goods through Friday, Dec. 13.
