Wayne, PA - Radnor Middle School seventh-grader Ethan Burke has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of 100 semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2014 Pennsylvania State Geographic Bee in Harrisburg on April 4. He won the 2014 Radnor Middle School Geographic Bee in January.
Bees were held in schools with fourth- through eighth-grade students throughout the state to determine each school’s Bee winner. At Radnor Middle School, Ethan competed against nine other finalists before emerging as the school’s champion. The other finalists were eighth-graders Connor Fisher, Cana McKenna and Andrew Doughan; sixth-graders Sean Seibel, Andy Jeon, Bisher Nasir, Gedd Constable and Jack Coleman; and WES fifth-grader Ulysses Buzan.
Ethan, along with the other school-level winners, then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. With one of the top 100 scores in Pennsylvania, Ethan was invited to compete in the state competition. The top scoring students from each of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Department of Defense Dependents Schools and U.S. territories were invited to compete at the state level.

The state winner will earn a trip to Washinton, D.C., where he/she will represent Pennsylvania in the national finals held in May at the National Geographic Society headquarters. The finals will be moderated by Soledad O'Brien and air on the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD.
