Agnes Irwin Teams Up With Penn, Drexel

The Main Line school is taking part in a technology study and introducing a new class.

Agnes Irwin School announced Monday that it has forged a partnership with the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Science to develop a course taught by both Penn professors and Agnes Irwin faculty.

Juniors and seniors will be able to take the class, which will focus on global health issues, particularly as they relate to girls and young women.

Drexel Study

Penn isn’t the only Philadelphia college Agnes Irwin is working with. The girls’ school will be a research site for a study led by Jennifer Rode of Drexel University on girls’ engagement with technology, specifically computer programming.

“The continued dearth of women who pursue careers in STEM has concerned many educators and women’s organizations alike,” said Mariandl Hufford, director of the AIS Center for the Advancement of Girls. “Through this study, we are honored to contribute to the body of research on girls and technology, while, at the same time, exposing our own students to the most up-to-date and girl-centered approaches to digital technology.”
