Archbishop Carroll Settling In

"We're getting better and we've found our personnel," said the coach.

Archbishop Carroll coach Joe Powell has been forced to tinker a little here and there to get down the proper personnel and place them in the right spots.

After three games, Powell feels he has what he needs, as the Patriots’ offense comes around with junior quarterback Sal Bello, who’s replaced the injured Jalal Timmons.

“We’re finding out who can play and what their tolerance is for playing both ways; we’re getting better and we’ve found our personnel,” said Powell, after the Pats dropped a heartbreaking 34-28 game last Saturday to Bishop McDevitt, sitting on the one-yard line for the go-ahead score as time expired.

“We made some mistakes [against McDevitt], but what I liked is we were resilient, even though we were down for most of the game.”

Dan Biers, a slot receiver and cornerback, continues to improve every week, and junior tailback Eric Massenberg continues to impress. He rushed for 115 yards and scored on a 27-yard touchdown from Bello.

“I like what Biers is doing, and Bello showed some toughness, he got knocked around pretty good in there, but hung in and played well,” Powell said. Carroll hosts Archbishop Ryan this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Radnor High School.

“Ryan is big and physical, we need to stop the run, and be able to run the ball to win,” Powell said.
