New Leadership for the School Board

New school board members were also sworn in this week.

 

Brucie Rapoport and Robert Armstrong were elected president and vice president, respectively, of the Radnor Township School District Board of School Directors at a Dec. 6 Reorganization Meeting in ’s Black Box Theater.

Newly elected board members Lisa Borowski and Kimm Doherty were also sworn in by Judge Ann A. Osborne of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.

Borowski and Doherty replace Steven K. Gerber and Greg McNicholas, both of whom retired after four years of school board service.

Rapoport, Armstrong, Borowski and Doherty join incumbent board members Patricia Booker, Charles E. Madden III, and Eric G. Zajac, who were also sworn in at the meeting. Board members Susan Michaelson and Lydia T. Solomon continue their 4-year terms.

Rapoport ascends to the presidency from her former post as vice president. She has volunteered in Radnor Township schools for the past 23 years, serving on the school board since 2005. Rapoport has been on the board of the Radnor A Better Chance (ABC) House, the manager of a Radnor Soccer Club team, and a three-term president of the West Wayne Civic Association. All four of her children have been educated in Radnor Schools and the youngest is currently a senior at Radnor High School. Rapoport has lived in Radnor Township for 28 years.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as president of the Radnor Township School Board,” Rapoport said. “I look to my fellow board members, the school community, and the community at large as we work together to deliver the best possible education for our children with the taxpayers in mind.” 

Armstrong is a 1989 graduate of the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He received a M.A. in Communication Management from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California and worked as Senior Financial Analyst at Entercom, a radio conglomerate based in the area. His work included financial analysis, information technology, and operations for over 100 radio stations with revenues in excess of $400 million. Armstrong has been a stay-at-home parent in Radnor for the past ten years.

“I’m excited to continue the work of strengthening our schools despite the challenges we face in this fragile economy,” Armstrong said. “Radnor voters have selected a strong and talented school board, and it is my hope that together as a team we can foster solutions to help us achieve our mission of creating a learning culture that allows our children to reach their best potential.”

and holds a B.S. in Communications from Drexel University. She has served as president for both the Ithan Elementary and Radnor Middle Schools' Parent-Teacher Organizations and currently serves on the Executive Board for the Radnor Educational Foundation. She is also a founding member of the Radnor Alumni Council. Borowski has twenty years experience in non-profit communications, marketing, and development and currently works as Board Operations Manager for the Philadelphia Police Foundation.

"I am grateful for the opportunity and the trust that Radnor Township voters have placed in me,” Borowski said. "It is my intent to support and move forward the good work of our administrators and teachers, while working with school parents and the community to make sure their concerns and needs are addressed.” 

who have attended Radnor schools since 1997. She has volunteered for the district through the Parent-Teacher Organizations, Radnor Educational Foundation, Radnor PAGE, RTSD Strategic Planning, and the League of Women Voters. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.A. in Educational Psychology. A certified teacher with ten years of experience in public schools, Doherty is currently an educational consultant specializing in gifted education.

“I am honored to have been selected by the voters to represent them on the school board,” Doherty said. “Improving upon our impressive school district during difficult economic times will be a challenge. I look forward to working with my fellow board members, the administration, and interested stakeholders to meet this challenge.”
