Closing Note On Carroll’s Season
Coach Joe Powell saw some enlightening things to build on this season.
ended its season 1-9 in coach Joe Powel’s first year with the Patriots. But Powell saw some enlightening things to build on for a program that finished with around 24 healthy players by the end of the season.
“One of the positives was my family philosophy was ingrained in a lot of my players,” Powel said. “I saw them play down-for-down and not worry about records and scoreboards. It was good to start the program off with the plan on getting better and improving. It was important to start having fun again. This will be my first off-season with the program. We have to get some people in the school out for the program and increase our numbers, get the weight room opened up again and start working.”
What is looming, however, is the possibility this could be Carroll’s last season.

There is strong speculation that a number of Archdiocese of Philadelphia high schools will be closed next year, after a meeting on January 5, 2012. Carroll is a school that faces that possibility.
“We hear the general rumors, but it depends on where you hit some schools and you hear certain other schools; it’s a sticky situation for all of us, what schools are closing and what schools are staying open on January 5th,” Powel said.

“No one knows what the full plan is with Archdiocese. We have a wait-and-see approach, and in the meantime, we just keep forward as if there will be another season. We’ll get back in the weightroom and start looking forward to the 2012 season.”
