Building Foundation Skills: What All Parents Need to Know About Critical Skills for Early Learning

Dr. Jennifer Jackson Holden, psychologist from Center for Psychological Services, and Penny Moldofsky, Director of the Literacy Institute at Woodlynde School will discuss the skills that children should be developing during the first years of school to establish a strong foundation for literacy and academic success in later grades. Incorporating recent research related to the brain, reading, and writing, the presenters will outline the essential components of programs designed to prevent academic problems and to identify areas needing support before self-esteem is eroded. Parents and early childhood educators will learn many of the signs predictive of later problems with reading or writing and what the research tells us about the most effective ways to prevent these problems.
