Virtuous Empathy and the Virtue of Charity:

Richard Miller, Indiana University November 3, 2011 – Driscoll Hall Auditorium – 4:30 PM   Dr. Richard Miller is Professor, Department of Religious Studies and Director, Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions at Indiana University.   Among Dr. Miller is author of Interpretations of Conflict: Ethics, Pacifism and the Just-War Tradition (1991), winner of a Bross Prize; Casuistry and Modern Ethics: A Poetics of Practical Reasoning (1996); Children, Ethics, and Modern Medicine (2003) and is co-editor of the IU Press series, Bioethics and the Humanities.   His lecture is part of Intersection of Virtue and Ethics, the first of a series of annual lectures dedicated to reflection on the many facets of the Catholic intellectual tradition. The series is sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry in collaboration with the departments of Theology & Religious Studies, Philosophy, Humanities, Center for Peace and Justice Education, Villanova Center for Liberal Education, the Ethics and Honors programs.
