Gifts Collected in Radnor Delivered to Those in Need

Radnor Elementary School students collected 1,000 donated gifts for "adoped" families in Chester and Upper Darby.

Radnor Elementary School concluded its 4th annual “Winter Wonder Project” on Friday, Dec. 16 when students wearing Santa caps and reindeer antlers helped load more than 1,000 donated gifts onto a U-Haul van for delivery to Family Support Services of Upper Darby and Chester Community Charter School.

The youngsters were joined by RES principal Terry Borden, teachers, and volunteer parents. Shawn Lacy, the Executive Director of Family Support Services, also spoke about the impact of the school’s effort on the children and adults it serves.

Coordinated by the Radnor Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization, the Winter Wonder Project is a holiday community service initiative that encourages RES families to "adopt" a needy child or family and donate specific gifts or donate gifts for general distribution. This year, more than 200 children were "adopted" by RES families.

“The Winter Wonder Project brings our school community together in the spirit of giving,” Borden said. “More importantly, it helps our students understand just how vital community service is during the holiday season.”
