No Comeback This Week: Radnor Loses Big to Strath Haven

Red Raiders get shutout in Wallingford.

WALLINGFORD—A first half deficit and tough turnovers proved to be insurmountable, and the Radnor Raiders lost 35-0 to Strath Haven Friday night.

The (0-2) offense struggled to gain any positive yardage all game, while the Strath Haven (2-0) defense swarmed the backfield and forced two turnovers. To size it up, Radnor junior quarterback Tim Wilson ran for 50 yards and threw for another 12 yards in the Central League match.

“I thought we played a pretty good first half, just two or three mistakes, and you can’t do that against a team like Strath Haven,” Radnor coach Tim Ryan said. “We’re in one of the toughest leagues in the state. There’s no easy weeks, that’s for sure.”

Strath Haven scored on its first two drives and went into halftime up, 14-0. Strath Haven senior fullback Andrew Crawford capped off the first half scoring with a rumbling 58-yard touchdown run, one of his four scores during the game.

QB Wilson and the Raiders showed pluck last week at Archbishop Carroll, where a second half comeback. They had no such luck this week, as Strath Haven scored three times in the third quarter to squash any hopes of a Radnor rally. Crawford and fellow senior halfback James Griffin scored on 40-plus touchdown runs just two minutes apart in the third.

In his fifth season at Radnor, coach Ryan said his team will spend the next week making adjustments after studying some game film from the loss.

“We have Harriton next week. They have a really nice quarterback, and coach [Matt] Barr does some nice things over there,” he said.

The Raiders (0-2) host the Harriton Rams (1-1) at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at Prevost Field.
