Michael J. Kelly, Superintendent of Schools for Radnor Township School District, posted the following letter on the school district's web site Monday about the frigid temperatures expected for Tuesday.

Although we are hopeful to start schools on time tomorrow (Tues., Jan. 7), I wanted to take a moment to address the frigid weather we areexpecting overnight and into the morning.

As of this time, the National Weather Service is predicting a low temperature of four degrees overnight with a high tomorrow afternoon of only 10 degrees. Winds are expected to range from 20 to almost 40 miles an hour, making it feel at times as though it is nine degrees below zero. Similar cold temperatures are expected tomorrow night into Wednesday morning.

First, as a precautionary measure, we are maintaining heat in our buildings overnight in an effort to have schools comfortable for students and staff when they arrive in the morning.

Second, our transportation department staff will be arriving at work in the morning earlier than usual in order to inspect buses and get them warmed up for our students. Additional staff and buses will be prepared to be put into service, if needed.

Finally, I recommend that students and their parents plan tonight for how the students are going to dress in the morning -- particularly younger students and those who will be walking or taking a bus to school. As always, the safety of our students comes first.

Have a good evening and please have a safe and warm commute tomorrow morning.
