Schools Gear Up for Another Academic Year

Local schools are excited about all of the upcoming events the 2011 - 2012 school year has in store.

The new school year is here. That means that it’s time to buy new notebooks, pencils, and book-bags. It also means that the local schools are gearing up for an extraordinary 2011-2012 school year.

Academy of Notre Dame de Namur is looking forward to a lot of special events in the upcoming year. They will be hosting a Mother-Daughter Picnic on September 16th, celebrating Homecoming Weekend from October 14th to 16th and have Spirit Day on October 28th. In addition, the school will also host an Open House on November 6th, hold their annual Art Show from January 28th to February 5th and Blast, their annual auction on March 31st . Their Sunflower Run at Ridley Park will be on April 21st and the high school musical will run from May 3rd to May 5th.

According to Principal Dr. Joseph F. D’Angelo, the school lay-off only one person last year and hasn’t suffered any repercussions from it.

Country Day School of the Sacred Heart is also excited about the upcoming school year. According to admissions director, Laurie Nowlan, the school has had great success with their Integrated Humanities Curriculum over the past several years and they are excited to explore the opportunity to integrate their math and science courses.

Some of the school’s upcoming events this fall and winter include The Miss Pat 5K with Heart and One Mile Tricia Trot Family Fun Walk on September 24th; the ninth grade Scholar Exam and Open House on October 15th and Open House for Pre-K through 12th grade on October 26th. The school will also be hosting Christmas at the Mansion on November 18th where vendors get to display their wares in time for Christmas shopping. The school’s Christmas concerts will be on December 19th and December 20th.

Country Day School of the Sacred Heart has had no layoffs in the past two years and they have added a part-time facility position for the upcoming year.
