Should Villanova Have Its Own Police Force?

The school would be following in a national trend for beefed up public safety on campuses.

Villanova University is considering having its own full-service police force, reports Philly.com.

The university has reportedly announced a series of campus meetings to discuss a possible upgrade from its current public-safety department. But it will not yet discuss details of what it is considering, such as whether officers would carry guns, Philly.com reports. The tentative steps "have sparked concern among some students and surprised police in Radnor Township, who were not consulted."

According to the newspaper article, the move would be following in a national trend "that has accelerated since the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre and amid stepped-up concern about student safety."
