Local Students Honored with Scholar-Athlete Award

Although they have not stayed in touch since their preschool days at Wayne's Heritage School, Michael Staples and Corey Power continued on a parallel path.

The two young men were standout linemen for their respective high school football teams and they met again on May 8th at the annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Banquet. Coach Andy Talley of Villanova University hosted the event as President of the Philadelphia Chapter.  

Staples and Power were both honored for their football accomplishments, academic achievement and leadership with the Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Award.  

Staples (Radnor High School) and Power (Marple Newtown High School), both standout linemen for their respective teams, will continue to meet on the gridiron over the next four years as defensive linemen for competing Ivy League football teams, Cornell (Staples) and Penn (Power).
