Radnor Aquatic Club Sends Swimmer to Olympic Trials

Shane Ryan is currently ranked first in the 100 back and 100 free and second in the 50 free among High School All-Americans.

Shane Ryan will represent the Radnor Aquatic Club (RAC) at Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska at the end of this month, where he will swim the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle.

He is the first RAC swimmer to qualify for Olympic Trials in the club's history, and as such he has become a point of pride and excitement for his team and its 200 members. It is not common for high school students to make Olympic Trials.

Ryan is currently ranked first in the 100 back and 100 free and second in the 50 free among High School All-Americans. He swims the 50 free in 19.91 seconds, and is one of only three high schoolers in the country to currently swim under the 20-second mark in this event.

Over his four years in high school, he was a 16-time All-American. Ryan has received numerous accolades throughout his high school career. Most recently, he was voted "The Best of the Main Line Athlete of the Year" by the readers of the Main Line Today Magazine.

At 6'6" tall and 187 pounds, the swimmer still has muscle to build. Swimming experts agree that as he adopts a more intensive weight training regimen and builds strength he will become an even more formidable force in USA swimming.

Next fall Ryan will leave RAC, as he heads to Penn State on a full scholarship. His current goals include swimming his best at Olympic Trials next week, and then making his mark on Penn State's swimming program and NCAA championships. In terms of longer range goals, time will tell… perhaps the 2016 Olympics.
