September is packed with events in Radnor and along the Main Line. Here are just a few coming up this month.

  • On Saturday, September 17, Simon’s Fund will host a free heart screening for Radnor School District students, ages 10 to 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Radnor High School. Conducted by the medical team from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) led by Dr. Victoria Vetter, each student will receive an ECG exam, a physical exam, and if necessary, an echocardiogram.  Simon’s Fund’s Radnor screening is being held with the support of Simon Prushan, a student who selected Simon's Fund as his bar mitzvah project.  Students may register for the screening at simonsfund.org/registration.

 

  • A Colonial Fair will be held on Saturday, September 17 at The Baptist Church in the Great Valley, Devon. The 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. event will take place on the church grounds at 945 N. Valley Forge Road. Live demonstrations of Colonial dancing, sword fighting, Revolutionary War musters, arts and crafts, children’s activities and historical cemetery tours. Fair activities include Sword and Swagger shows (two, half-hour performances with audience participation) one hour demonstrations each of tape weaving, paper quelling and filigree and candle making, as well as sessions of two sessions of Colonial dancing and muster drills, also involving members of the.

  • The Wayne Business Association’s 19th annual Radnor Fall Festival will take place Sunday, September 18 from 1 to 5 p.m. on North Wayne Avenue in Wayne. There will be rides, games and entertainment for children and food for the family. Enter your dog into the Top Dog contest, which will take place at 3 p.m. Also, about 60 local businesses and organizations will be in attendance. Admission is free. The sponsors of the event are: , , Woodlynde School, , Renewal by Anderson, Orthopedic Specialists, , , , Do It Best Hardware, Braxton's Animal Works, , Dayton Lock Company, Main Line Print Shop, The Phone & Power Specialist, Radnor Patch, and Westside Wellness Chiropractic Center.

 

  • September 18 is the first meeting of REAL LIFE READS, the new Sunday book discussion series at the . Discussions are free and open to the public and registration is not required. Copies of each book are available at Radnor Memorial Library and throughout the Delaware County Library System. Being discussed is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot: The story of how scientists took cells from an unsuspecting descendant of freed slaves and created a human cell line that has been kept alive indefinitely, enabling discoveries in such areas as cancer research, in-vitro fertilization, and gene mapping.

  • On Wednesday, September 21 at 7 p.m. the and are presenting “An Evening with David & Julie Nixon Eisenhower” at the Auditorium at South Wayne and Windermere avenues, Wayne.  In their new book, "Going Home to Glory: A Memoir of Life with Dwight D. Eisenhower 1961- 1969", the Eisenhowers deliver a warm and personal recollection of the retirement years of David Eisenhower's grandfather the Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and 34th President of the United States.  Attendees should park on the South Wayne Avenue side of the Middle School in the South Wayne Lot, Municipal Lot or Runnymede Avenue Lot.

 

  • Also on Wednesday September 21, will be hosting a shopping event that will raise money for breat cancer research. It will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. and the vendors participating are donating a portion of their sales to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. There is a $20 donation at the door.

 

  • Main Line Animal Rescue’s fundraiser Wag ‘n Train will take place Saturday, September 24 at Pickering Meade Farm in Chester Springs. The party offers a casual evening that is attended by more than 700 guests enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, music by the Jim Fogarty Band, Live and silent auctions, dinner and dessert.   • Braxton's 11th Annual Pet Rescue & Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday, September 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Braxton’s Animal Works in Wayne. The annual Harvest Fest benefits local pet rescue organizations.
