Bomb Threat Called in at Cabrini College

Police searched for an explosive device in the school's historic Woodcrest Hall.

On Sunday night, a man called Cabrini College and stated that a bomb was planted in the school's Woodcrest Hall, police said. Radnor Police were notified to the threat after receiving a call Sunday at 9:45 p.m. for a report of a fire alarm. Police and Radnor Fire Co. were dispatched and responded. The fire alarm was pulled after a phone call was received indicating that a bomb was in the building, according to police. K9 Units from Folcroft and Trainer Borough Police Departments assisted Radnor in checking the building for incendiary devices, but none were found. The building was turned back over to Cabrini College administrators at 11:30 p.m. after the search of the building was completed, according to police. The case remains under …

How a White House Internship Confirmed a Passion for Government

Cabrini College senior Dana Berardi saw firsthand the work it takes to support the President.

Cabrini College senior Dana Berardi spent her fall semester living and working in Washington D.C. as part of the White House internship program. The Political Science, History and American Studies major was an intern in the Office of Scheduling and Advance, which supports the President in his meetings, events and appearances. Berardi told Radnor Patch that she could not go into too many details of what she did “because of the nature of it,” but said that she was in charge of making sure every gift that President Obama received was catalogued and filed, amongst other duties. The fact that Obama was campaigning during part of her internship, and took an historic trip to Asia, meant that her office was particularly busy during her time there…

Cabrini Brings Expansion Proposal to Radnor BOC

Cabrini College's expansion would include a new student center and parking changes.

Cabrini College presented a campus expansion plan to the Radnor Board of Commissioners on Monday, Main Line Media News reports. The plan, called the Cabrini College Gateway Project, includes a new three-story student center and an expansion of the Dixon Center athletic building. The college also wants to eliminate vehicle traffic from the center of campus.  In order to do this, they propose building a new road that goes around the center of campus and to reduce the West Parking Lot.  The college is also proposing changes to two other parking lots on campus. Her Death a Loss to Cabrini, Wayne Communities

Martha Dale was called "a long and shining star."

When the Woodcrest Estate Mansion at Cabrini College in Radnor was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, Wayne resident Martha Dale was one of the people who deserved, and received, recognition. Dale, who had worked as Director of Historical Projects for the college also worked for many years as its alumni director. But when Dale died of cancer on Sept. 24, tributes and profound words were shared about the 35-year Wayne resident. "She had an incredible way about her — she had a very big genuine interest about so much, and made you feel so connected to her by how she listened and responded to what you were thinking or saying. She had a very young spirit; she didn’t seem to let her age dictate her thoughts," said …

Cabrini, Adelberger, Villa Strafford Projects in Front of Planning

Is C.F. Holloway reversing its original plans and knocking down the Adelberger flower shop?

The Radnor Township Planning Commission heard a revised sketch plan by Cabrini College to distribute parking across its campus instead of in one garage off of Eagle Road, reports Main Line Media News. "The C.F. Holloway plan for consolidating two lots for commercial and residential use on W. Wayne Ave. took a strange twist when Holloway’s revised plan showed the removal of the current Adelberger Florist shop and three, rather than two, three-unit condominium units, the third, added in place of the shop," the newspaper reports of Tuesday's meeting. Read all about the meeting, including a proposal to subdivide the Atterbury estate on Newtown Road in Villanova, by clicking here. You can watch the meeting in its entirety in the video section…

New Cabrini Roof a Nod to the Past

A new clay tile roof is almost completed on the mansion of the Radnor campus.

Cabrini College is in the process of replacing the roof of The Mansion, formerly the Woodcrest Mansion, which is the centerpiece of its Radnor campus that was designed by famed Philadelphia architect Horace Trumbauer. The mansion was built between 1901 and 1903, and is named to the National Register of Historic Places. Twenty-five-year-old asphalt shingles needed to be replaced, and the school chose to replace them with clay tiles, said Howard Holden, director of facilities at Cabrini. "We felt it deserved the best roof system we could install," said Holden, who added that the original roofing material may have been slate. About a decade ago the roof on Grace Hall, which was the Woodcrest Estate's stable and carriage house, was replaced …

Cabrini Coaches to Teach Lacrosse Summer Camp

Cabrini College men and women lacrosse coaches will host separate sessions for boys and girls entering second through ninth grades from June 18 through June 21.

Cabrini College men's lacrosse coach Brian Felice said it's important for young players to work on fundamentals Friday night at the inaugural championship game of the new township youth lacrosse program. He said many youth programs emphasize tournament play and parent and player schedules leave too little time for practice and drills.  To help fill this need, Felice and Cabrini women's coach Jackie Neary will run separate boys and girls lacrosse camp during the week of June 18 through June 21 for players entering second through ninth grades.  Felice said participants will get instruction in all aspects of the basics of lacrosse. Camp staff will include members of the Cavalier men and women lacrosse teams as well as local high school and …
