Cream and Sugar in Wayne Closing

Sunday will be the last day for the coffee shop and eatery.

Cream and Sugar, the coffee shop and eatery in Wayne, is closing after nearly ten years in business. Sunday will be the cafe's last day open. The shop was known for its spacious setting and atmosphere, which includes a piano. In November the cafe's owner Kenneth Gould died; his wife Kay continued to run the business.

Hogfish Swims Away

A new restaurant will be coming to the Wayne location that housed Hogfish Bar and Grill.

It was recently confirmed to me by a Radnor Township official that after a few months of being not open, Hogfish Bar and Grill really is closed — permanently. According to Radnor Patch's article on the restaurant, the goal in opening Hogfish Bar and Grill was to bring the Floridian experience to the Main Line. The owners wanted their guests to enjoy the delicious fish and produce found in Florida. Co-owners Mike Scartozzi and Ed O'Neill (of O'Neill's Auto Body) have both owned and operated businesses along the Main Line for decades. While Scartozzi has over 25 years in the restaurant business (he is the past president of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association), O'Neill is a relative newcomer to the hospitality industry. The restaurant …

The food and vibe at Hogfish were actually very good. Maybe it would have had a fighting chance with a front and center location. Once Flavor closed and its half of building was dark, nobody could tell if Hogfish was open. The temporary-looking "now open" sign didn't help. Hope the new place is going in the front.   more ›

Gumdrops and Sprinkles Closing in Wayne

The store is selling off some of its fixtures and candy.

Gumdrops and Sprinkles, the candy, ice cream and toy store, is leaving its Wayne location. The store is going to be open through this weekend, said Kevin O’Grady, manager. Some fixtures are for sale from the store, including refrigerators, freezers and furniture. The candy and toys that reamin are for sale at a discount. Gumdrops and Sprinkles have been in Wayne for about three-and-a-half years. O'Grady said they are planning on moving to another location but do not know where that is yet. "Wayne has been a good place for us. We've met some really great people here," he said. "Unfortunately this is part of business."

Checking Out: The End of Genuardi's

A look at the demise of a supermarket superstar.

There one stands here in Radnor Township — a store that anchors the back end of St. Davids Square shopping center. The Genuardi's supermarket chain was once a bustling, top-of-its-class supermarket that offered superior customer service and even more superior grocery selections. It was the Wegmans of its day; a precursor to Whole Foods. When the family-owned chain sold out to Safeway in 2001, its customer service, premier selections and history went with it. Now, a decade later, Safeway is giving up 16 of its Genuardi's chains to Giant. It is also selling off another eight Genuardi's to prospective buyers and shuttering the remaining three. The Philadelphia Inquirer takes a historical look at the rise and fall of one of our area's most …
