Sen. Daylin Leach Announces Run for Congress

The Democratic state senator for much of the Main Line will pursue Rep. Allyson Schwartz's seat.

Sen. Daylin Leach (D-Montgomery, Delaware) announced Tuesday morning he will run in 2014 for the U.S. House of Representatives. Leach will run in Pennsylvania's 13th District, currently represented by fellow Democrat and expected gubernatorial candidate Rep. Allyson Schwartz. Leach was a state representative from 2003 to 2009, and last November he won a second four-year term in the state senate, where his constituencies include residents of Lower Merion, Haverford and Radnor townships. He has become a more prominent Democratic figure through pushes to legalize marijuana and gay marriage in Pennsylvania, as well as through his opposition to voter-ID requirements. Whenever I have heard Senator Leach speak or read articles about him, he has always come across as the voice of the "little guy" - a constant champion for human (and animal) rights. He doesn't take the easy road but he takes the "right" road. I am very excited that he is running for national office - he will represent best his constituents and issues that effect us all.   more ›

Meehan Sworn in for Second Term in U.S. House

Constituents waste no time weighing in on Congress.

U.S. Representative Patrick Meehan (R-PA7) is now officially a second-term Congressman. Meehan, who lives in Drexel Hill and who represents parts of Delaware, Chester and Montgomery Counties, took the oath of office during swearing-in ceremonies on Capitol Hill Thursday afternoon. Meehan posted a fairly genetic statement on Facebook shortly after taking the oath. "It is my honor to serve the people of the 7th congressional district for a second term," the Facebook posting reads. "Every day, I appreciate the great privilege that it is to represent the voice of our district in Congress.
