Philly.com reports that: Four months after accusing a Canadian couple of scheming to buy - and then burn down - his famed 19-bedroom Main Line mansion in an insurance-fraud plot, a Radnor Township man has decided to drop his legal battle with the pair and split the proceeds. Disclosed in court records, the deal means both sides get far more cash than either paid, or ever offered to pay, for the estate designed by Horace Trumbauer. Jerald S. The state of Pennsylvania is suing after the NCAA sanctioned Penn State.
Gov. Tom Corbett announced Wednesday that he is suing the National Collegiate Athletic Association for its sanctions against Penn State University. The owner of historic "Bloomfield" said Canadian renters engaged in "a pattern of racketeering activity" prior to the April blaze.
The fire that all but destroyed “Bloomfield,” the Horace Trumbauer-designed mansion on South Ithan Avenue in Villanova, was part of a scheme by renters to obtain an insurable interest in the estate and assert the right to receive all proceeds of the insurance in the case of a fire, according to a lawsuit filed Nov. 29 in U.S. District Court. On April 4, flames devoured the mansion and neighbors gathered at the foot of its driveway to watch and gasp. While neither police nor fire representatives have said that there were any “criminal origins” to the fire, owner Jerald S. A handful of citizens believe that the township's lease of a field to a private school goes against a 1999 Covenants Agreement.
Attorneys representing a group of Radnor residents, Radnor Township and a private girls' school were in front of a panel of Commonwealth Court judges on Monday. The Citizens to Keep Radnor Parks Public, who believe that Radnor's lease of its Radnor Memorial Park to Agnes Irwin School is not legal, were there to defend their appeal of a Delaware County Court's decision that favored the township and the school. In June, 2011, Radnor entered into a 15-year lease with the school for them to build a turf field and use the park as an ahtletic field. Under the agreement, Agnes Irwin would pay for everything it added to the land, which is located next to Archbishop John Carroll High School on Matson Ford Road. The lease also gave the school …
