In one case a child reports being bitten by a dog.
Radnor Township has on its books codes that prohibit dogs from being unaccompanied by an owner when off of its property and from injuring people. Two Radnor residents recently received citations for violating those codes. A resident of North Wayne was cited after a child reported being bitten by a dog walking without a leash with its owner on May 3 near North Wayne Park. Two small superficial puncture marks were seen on the child's back. Found the following day by police, the dog's owner said he had not realized that his mixed labrador retriever had bitten the victim. A Bryn Mawr resident was cited for leaving his dog unaccompanied and roaming free after the dog was found by another Bryn Mawr resident in his yard on May 4. The dog was …
A reader wrote into Radnor Patch to find out what happened to a Wayne playground.
A playground for small children has been moved for a second time at Encke Park, the park located next to the Radnor Township municipal building. A Radnor Patch reader wrote in to ask what happened to the playground, which recently disappeared from the site. Tammy Cohen, director of Radnor's Recreation and Community Programming Department, told Radnor Patch that the township is evaluating all of its parks to see how improvements can be made—from new fencing to comfort stations. The long-term view of the park may include how the township building and nearby Radnor Trail fits in. A new layout might be part of the future of site, Cohen said. "We apologize to those who miss the tot lot," she said. "In Radnor, we are fortunate that we have so …

Planning Commission votes against school's proposal to change Radnor's zoning for its project.
Radnor Township's Planning Commission voted against a Villanova University proposal that would allow it to build a dormitory, parking garage and performing center on the school's main parking lot on Lancaster Avenue. The commission recommended against the plan because it does not know how it would affect the rest of the township. The members said they would rather see it come in as a land development plan under the existing ordinance as opposed to changing the township's zoning code. Read a long discussion thread by Patch readers on the topic here. "We have a large concern that what you see is not what you're going to get," said Dave Onorato, attorney for a neighbors group Friends to Preserve Radnor. Onorato said the group is concerned …

The township could increase its police force by 10 this year.
If you've worked with the Radnor Police Department over the past few years you may have heard multiple times how short handed the department is. Officers who have left have not been replaced. On Monday, Radnor's Board of Commissioners approved eight new hires subject to the 2013 budget and the newly-agreed-upon contract with the Fraternal Order of Police. In March, the board voted to extend two conditional offers of employment to applicants on the eligibility list for Lateral Police Patrol Officer Position. “It is hard to say exactly where we will end up because we cannot predict retirements,” Board of Commissioners president Elaine Paul Schaefer told Main Line Media News. “But we are confident that even if all the new officers accept …

What do you think of the possible new location?
In November Radnor Patch reported that the Wayne Senior Center and Radnor Township were exploring the possibility of moving the senior citizen organization into the underused municipal building. This week Main Line Media News is reporting that representatives from the center, which is on Station Road in Wayne across from the train station, are in talks with township officials to relocate its operation. The senior center is located on Station Avenue in downtown Wayne in a building owned by the township. The newspaper reports: ...the senior center would occupy the township building’s second floor, and members would enter the facility from the ground-level entrance near the police department and then take an elevator to the second floor. “…
