Best-Selling Author James Patterson Helps Patch Parents

We have four reading lists for children of all ages.

Best-selling author James Patterson, famous for his detective and psychologist Alex Cross novels among others, is helping parents with their children's summer reading. The 65-year-old Patterson created a summer reading list through his ReadKiddoRead Program. The program is designed to help parents select the best books for their children based on their young ones' age. The program is also to help parents to encourage their young ones to become avid readers. New In Radnor Summer Reading: Choice

Radnor Middle School's new method "encourages students to go beyond that requirement and read what they love all summer long."

Summer reading — a phrase that adults may love and kids may not. But Radnor Middle School is trying a new strategy that they hope will encourage its students to read this summer and for the rest of their lives. Instead of assigning a select number of summer reading titles, the school has developed lists of suggested summer reading titles for students and parents to consider. Students are also free to choose other books that may especially interest them, according to the Radnor Township School District. Video: Summer Reading For Kids

Learn how you can get your child to read more during the summer at the Radnor Library.

On this week's Patch Presents, Sam Strike interviews Dorothy Carlson, Head of Children's Services, Carrie Sturgill, Children's Librarian, and Molly Carroll, Young Adult Coordinator of the Radnor Memorial Library. The three talk about their summer reading programs and how you can encourage children to be successful readers. Did your kid love the Hunger Games? Then they might love these books. Patch Presents airs Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. on channel 21 (Comcast and Verizon) and rerun on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. All past shows can be found on Radnor Patch's Youtube channel.
