Chamounix Road Theft Nearly $20,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from a home on Chamounix Road in St. Davids within a two-hour time frame on April 23. It is one of three recent break-ins that Radnor Police are investigating. According to a police report, the homeowner left her house at 9:15 a.m. and returned two hours later to find her jewelry box emptied. An unlocked door was found at the back of the home, an apparent oversight by someone who provided services to the homeowner. South Bryn Mawr Avenue Theft A resident of South Bryn Mawr Avenue in Bryn Mawr told police that she believes a relative of hers who works as a babysitter has been stealing jewelry from the family's safe over the past year and a half. A proposed law would lower the value needed for a felony charge in retail theft.
A new bill passed in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives could crack down on retail theft, or make it easier for someone to become a felon. Under House Bill 1000 any incident of retail theft in which the value of the items stolen exceeds $1,000 can result in a third-degree felony charge. Before this bill the cutoff line for a felony charge of retail theft was $2,000. As the law exists now, there are a number of ways one can be charged for retail theft as explained below: The bill passed 195-0 in the House and now moves on to the Senate. Do you support this bill? Read about some recent thefts from local schools.
The following information was supplied by Radnor Township Police. Two laptop computers, among other items, were stolen from an unlocked study hall in Bartley Hall at Villanova University between 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. on April 9. According to a police report, Bose headphones valued at $300, two calculators and a backpack were also taken. An Apple computer was valued at $1,600; and VU-owned Dell laptop at $1,500. An Eastern University student is getting her computer back a few months after it was stolen. According to a police report, in January her Mac Book Pro was stolen from a room in McGinnis Hall. An iPhone valued at $500 was stolen from Anthropologie in Wayne at about 3:15 on Friday, March 15. According to a police report, the victim plugged her phone into an electrical outlet at the back of the store to charge the phone while she shopped. A resident of Ramblewood Drive in Bryn Mawr is wondering who is making hundreds of dollars in calls to Mexico and Guatemala with her daughter's cell phone. According to a police report, the cell phone disappeared from her home in January, although it had not been used since September 2012. The victim discovered a $949.61 bill for February and a $2,189.58 bill due for March and called the provider. A Valley Forge Military Academy cadet reported March 16 that his wallet was stolen out of his room …

Radnor Police report the theft of something most of us would not want to touch.
Radnor Police report that $200 in cooking grease was stolen from an outdoor container at Five Guys in Wayne. An employee of the hamburger restaurant reported the theft on Feb. 26; the theft likely occurred between Feb. 22 and that date. There was also about $300 worth of damage done to the grease container. Last year, according to a report from Malvern Patch, emergency services responded to an auto crash involving a van with a 250 gallon tank of cooking grease in the back. Amazingly, only 10 to 15 gallons of grease was reported spilled. Read the story here. The 31-year-old former Berwyn resident is charged in other recent incidents, too.
Tredyffrin Township police on Wednesday announced an arrest, and a confession, in the Jan. 20 robbery from a Girl Scout cookie sale at the Berwyn Pathmark. Jevon Michael Avis, 31, of Carlisle, and formerly of the 300 block of Beechwood Avenue in Berwyn, was arrested Tuesday evening. He admitted stealing from the scouts in an interview with a police detective, police say. Read more on TE Patch.

The employee has been fired.
An employee of the Wawa on Lancaster Avenue in Wayne has admitted to pocketing cash he received at the register, police say. According to a police report, the 21-year-old man from Devon would ring up a sale, collect the money, put the cash in his pocket, void the sale and give change to the customer from the register. He has done that on every shift he has worked since December, police report. The now former employee admitted to the thefts and was fired by Wawa.

The cadet did not use the safe in his room, according to police.
A cadet at Valley Forge Military Academy reported that he had $2,000 in cash stolen from his dorm room throughout the month of January. According to a police incident report, the cadet arrived on campus on Jan. 5 with $5,000 in cash, but was told by the school's staff that he was only allowed to have $35. The cadet hid his cash around his room instead of using a safe, the report stated. The thefts were reported to police on Feb. 4 after the cadet turned the rest of his cash over to school officials.
