Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeats Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice presidential running mate, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges from …

Jill Biden Energizes Obama Supporters

Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, makes a campaign stop in Wescosville Monday to drum up support for the Obama-Biden ticket in the final weeks of the campaign.

Laura J. Marie has been so frustrated with friends and family who do not support the Obama-Biden ticket that she went online a few days ago to offer to help the president's re-election campaign. "And I was invited here today," she said as she stood among the 100 or so supporters who came to hear Jill Biden speak Monday at the Pennsylvania State Education Association office in Wescosville. "I only wish I did it sooner." Marie, who said she voted for Obama in 2008, was clearly among like-minded individuals as she waited for Jill Biden to approach the podium. Some, like Allentown resident and retired Salisbury High School art teacher Dolly Yanolko, were quite emphatic in their support for the president. “Any teacher who doesn’t vote for a …

Pa. Voter ID Law On Hold Until After Presidential Election

Judge Robert Simpson ruled Tuesday that implementation of Pennsylvania's new Voter ID law be put on hold until after the Nov. 6 general election.

A judge ruled today that Pennsylvania's tough new Voter ID Law should be put on hold until after the Nov. 6 general election, according to an Associated Press report. The ruling can be appealed to the state Supreme Court, which said it would expedite any further action in the case since Election Day is just five weeks away. Do you agree with the ruling? Tell us in the comments section below. Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson heard two days of testimony last week, as directed by the Supreme Court, to determine whether the state has made it easy enough to get a photo ID in order to vote. Opponents say the law, and the process to get an ID, disenfranchises voters. Supporters say the law will prevent voter fraud - but that justification …

Photos: Who's Who At Romney Rally in Wayne

Mitt Romney visited Valley Forge Military Academy on Friday on the campaign trail.

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took the stage at Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne on Friday afternoon, speaking to a crowd of at least a thousand supporters and vowing to win both the state and the presidency. Before Romney took the stage around noon, several Pa. politicians and political hopefuls spoke to the largely Republican crowd about their own policies and hopes for the November election. Learn what they had to say in the gallery above.

It's incredible how closed minded and shallow Kate and a few others really are. It's a shame that such misinformed, biased people are able to offset my vote. I really resent it. Open up your mind, Kate, and start realizing that we cannot continue down the same path as the last 3 1/2 years under Mr Obama. Do you really not understand that, Kate?   more ›

Presidential Election

Local Audience Says Romney Gives Hope

Find out what Mitt Romney supporters from around the Delaware Valley thought of the Republican presidential candidate's speech at Valley Forge Military Academy & College.

The economy, jobs, military, foreign policy and education were just some of the issues concerning former Gov. Mitt Romney's supporters who came to hear the candidate speak Friday at Valley Forge Military Academy and College.  Wendy Neininger of Willistown Township, a registered Democrat, is supporting Romney. In 2008, Neininger supported Hillary Clinton, but when Clinton lost the Democratic primary to President Barack Obama, Neininger changed her allegiance. Now, she volunteers at the Romney Victory Office in West Chester.  Neininger is concerned about the job market and said college students are scared about the future. “It’s not just the older workers who can’t find jobs; it’s the younger workers too,” she said. Cabrini College students …

Voter ID Case Goes to Pa. Supreme Court Today

The Pa. Supreme Court will hear from opponents of the state's new Voter ID law on Thursday.

Opponents of Pennsylvania's new voter ID will make their case Thursday before the state Supreme Court. There's no time frame for a ruling from the court - but the Nov. 6 General Election is fast approaching.  The Supreme Court is composed of three Republican and three Democratic justices (a seventh judge was suspended while she faces criminal charges). A 3-3 tie would affirm the decision of the lower court, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report. Commonwealth Court upheld the law in August. Supporters say the law will prevent voter fraud and imposes the same photo ID standard required in many common circumstances. Challengers say the law is designed to disenfranchise poor and elderly voters who often support Democratic candidates. …

Paul Ryan’s Visit Energizes Local Republicans

The economy and entitlements were hot issues.

For the many Republicans who gathered at Paul Ryan’s Tuesday visit to the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester, the current state of the economy was a huge issue. Between 2,000 and 3,000 people attended the event, campaign volunteers estimated. Many present also expressed concern about the need for smaller government and about entitlement programs and their sustainability.  “I’m concerned about the economy, as everybody is,” said Chet Walker, of Birmingham Township, when asked why he’s supporting the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan ticket. “And about the job situation.” Walker added he was disappointed in the Democrats who protested outside and who went in to disrupt Ryan’s speech. “I think he understands the severity of the situation this …

Ryan a Strong VP Choice Say Pa. Republicans

Red Keystone Snap Poll shows strong support for Ryan among Pennsylvania Republicans.

A snap Red Keystone survey of GOP activists in Pennsylvania by Patch shows strong support for U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s choice for running mate. Ryan as vice presidential nominee will help galvanize Republican voters in the Keystone State, according to more than two thirds of respondents. More than half also say Ryan will help the GOP ticket win undecided voters. Respondents aren’t concerned that Democrats can win by running against Ryan's existing budget plans and particularly his proposal for Medicare. Several respondents noted that Ryan will help the GOP win young voters.  But one Republican commented, “I don't believe that a VP pick ultimately changes elections. Perhaps the last time it did was in 1960.” Here are other …

Voter ID

How Do You Get a Valid Pennsylvania ID?

With the new voter ID law in effect for November's general election, here's all you need to know about getting the proper ID needed to vote.

Starting with the November General Election, Pennsylvania law will require voters to show an acceptable photo ID to vote at the polls. All identification used for voting must have an expiration date and be current, except for Pennsylvania driver's licenses or non-driver photo identification, which are valid for voting purposes one year past their expiration. Voters who do not have an acceptable form of photo identification for voting can get one for free at any Pennsylvania Department of Transportation driver license center. What you need to do depends on whether or not you previously had a PennDOT-issued driver's license or ID. Here is everything you need to know if you're planning to cast your ballot this fall. Acceptable IDs include: If…

I am going to senior centers in the area to educate them about voter ID. If you have questions, click on my name and leave me a question. All the info in this article is not accurate. Student, govt and most military IDs need expiration dates on them and can't be expired. Your name on the license has to match the voter registration roll. Nov is going to be pandemonium.   more ›
