SAT Results: Compare Local High Schools

See how your high school did in comparison with other local public schools.

Philadelphia's J.R. Masterman ranked at the top of SAT scores again for 2011. Although the school's average cumulative score of 1897 did drop from 2010's total of 1929. Chester County's Conestoga High School in Tredyffrin-Easttown School District came in second again. Montgomery County's Lower Merion School District claimed third place with Lower Merion High School and fifth with Harriton High School. Delaware County's Radnor High School fit in between those schools at fourth. All four of these Main Line schools had the same rankings in 2010. Philadelphia's Central High School had the most seniors taking the SAT at 520, followed by Conestoga with 490 and Haverford High School in Delaware County with 372. Philadelphia's J.R. It is a bit strange that Downingtown East and West were left out. Downingtown East Had a combined 1637, beating all the West Chester Schools. But, Downingtown West scored much lower then Henderson at 1576.   more ›

Philly Mag Ranks Main Line High Schools

A Philadelphia school takes the No. 1 spot in this year’s Philadelphia Magazine rankings.

Philadelphia Magazine is in newsstands and online with its Best High Schools issue. This year, Philadelphia’s Masterman took the top spot. Lower Merion High School took second place and Unionville took number three. Here’s how Main Line high schools fared: 2. Lower Merion (Lower Merion School District) 4. Including Masterman - a highly selective magnet school - with general enrollment public schools skews ratings a bit. This is why other 'rankings' like Newsweek separate magnet from non-magnet schools. Masterman SHOULD have very high rankings as they are educating only the most motivated, gifted students. Should Kindergartners Get iPads?

About 400 tablet computers, costing almost $500 apiece, will be deployed throughout the Lower Merion School District to the youngest students.

Every student in the Lower Merion School District's 14 kindergarten classes this fall will have his or her own Apple iPad tablet computer for lessons, district technology director George Frazier told Patch. The iPads would stay in the classrooms, which was the arrangement this year for "pilot classes" that used the devices: a kindergarten class at Belmont Hills Elementary School and a first-grade class at Cynwyd Elementary School, Frazier said. Those students had some of the approximately 150 iPads deployed in the district this year. About 250 more will be bought in bulk for the coming school year, at $488 per iPad, Frazier said.
