As part of its Plein Air exhibit, the Wayne Art Center is holding events that the public can participate in. Check on the art center's website for fees and to register for these programs. On Saturday, May 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. instructor Abby Laible will lead a gallery tour and paintout for young artists. On June 5 there will be a guided tour of the Gardens at Big Bend with artist and landscape conservationist George A. Weymouth. Followed by lunch. On June 6 there will be a plein air demonstration will artist Valerie Craig and wine and beer tastings. Painters participating in the Wayne Art Center's Plein Air Exhibit hit Wayne last week to paint the scenes of every day Wayne. Here are some of the businesses that became subjects of art. The exhibit runs through June 29. Many of the paintings are still available for purchase.

The Wayne Art Center's annual exhibit brings in 30 artists who paint the landscape and buildings of this area.
The 2013 Plein Air artists have already created more 180 paintings in the past three days, according to the Wayne Art Center. On Thursday, 30 national artists are painting in the historical locations of Center City, boat house road, the state penitentiary as well as the classic Ardrossan Farm Estate in Villanova. On Friday, May 10 all the artists will paint on location in downtown Wayne from sunrise until 1 p.m. The Gala Opening is Friday, May 10 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the art center. On Saturday morning in downtown Wayne from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. will be the official "Paint Out." The art center's gallery is open Mondays – Fridays, 9 am – 5 pm and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A Japanese tea ceremony demonstration will be held on Saturday.
A collection of Japanese traditional kimono was presented as a fashion show at the Wayne Art Center on April 28. The event is one of a number of Japanese cultural events presented by The Tori Collection on the occasion of the show being held currently at the art center. The next event, according to the art center, is a tea ceremony demonstration on Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. According to the Wayne Art Center: Takeko Shervin has been practicing “Chado/Sado” Art of Tea Ceremony for over thirty years. Studied under Urasenke School of Tea, in 2010 she attained the rank of kyoju, an honor that has been granted to few teachers in the United States. Nancy Campbell has turned a small art center into a well-known and respected resource.
Nancy Campbell is celebrating 25 years as executive director of the Wayne Art Center this year. When she came to the art center in the mid-1980s it was a small cinderblock shack of 2,600 square feet, she recalled. Today, the art center gets international submissions of work and has made a name with its Craft Forms and Plein Air exhibits. It has grown to 28,000 square feet, and it may not end there. "They opened up so many opportunities," she said of the center's two expansions. There are now two main art galleries, a gift shop, a ceramics studio, sculpture studio, jewelry studio, children's studios and a culinary studio. The 'Reigning Cats and Dogs' exhibits art inspired by our companion animals.
Reigning Cats and Dogs, an exhibition celebrating the joy of animal companionship, will open to the public Friday with a private reception from 6-9 p.m. at the Wayne Art Center. The exhibit features a body of juried entries from artists working in painting, drawing, pastel, mixed media, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture and fiber. Nearly 90 works of art representing 65 artists through the United States and Canada have been chosen out of 120 submissions. A portion of proceeds from sales and commissions will be dedicated to Main Line Animal Rescue.
