Natalie Daher is a native of Broomall and a rising junior at the University of Pittsburgh studying Communication and Nonfiction Writing. This summer, she has returned home to work as an intern with Patch sites in the Philadelphia suburbs. She is the assistant news editor for her daily college paper, The Pitt News, and has also served as a writing intern for a website based in the Steel City, activepittsburgh.com.

During a career fair in the fifth grade, a local reporter’s presentation at St. Anastasia School sparked Natalie’s passion for journalism. That afternoon, she began publishing weekly editions of The Daher Family Scoop hot off the press of her family’s Canon printer. This hobby continued for years. After dabbling with her high school newspaper and yearbook at Cardinal O’Hara in Springfield, Natalie worked as a staff writer at The Pitt News.

The enthralling experience of being outside of her comfort zone has been the most rewarding aspect of journalism for Natalie. It has attracted her to both the field of journalism and to a college 300 miles from home. During her remaining college years, she plans to pursue an additional internship at a city paper or one of her favorite magazines, such as The New Republic and The New Yorker.

As a Patch intern, Natalie had the opportunity to attend the Dow Jones News Fund digital journalism workshop in Bowling Green, Ky. for a week with 24 other Patch interns from across the States. She and her team of two other interns produced a website on the growing Islamic community in the town after a week of reporting and researching. This summer, she looks forward to sharpening her reporting, writing and multimedia skills while delving into the community scoop of her neighboring suburbs. In her free time, Natalie enjoys doing yoga, cooking healthy and exotic cuisine, and watching Mad Men.
