Art Exhibition and Sale at Eastern University
Come out to support this fundraiser for the restoration of a painting of Philadelphia philanthropist Charles Walton Sr., whose estate Eastern University is now located on. Mr. Walton (1862-1916) was a man who was instrumental in the creation of the Philadelphia Mainline community. This is displayed by his participation in township committees, school boards, and churches of the Mainline area. Mr. Walton may have been only fifty-four years old at the time of his death, but he certainly had lived a life dedicated to his community, family, and God. Now, almost a century after Mr. Walton's death, a group of Eastern University students are trying to keep his legacy alive. When these students discovered a damaged oil portrait of this great man, they became determined to save and restore it. An "Art Exhibition and Sale" will be held to raise the funds needed to restore Mr. Walton's portrait. This event will be held at Walton Hall on Eastern University's St. Davids Campus on April 12th from 10:00AM to 5:00PM. Art and crafts at the exhibition and sale will be from Eastern University artists and craftspeople, as well as local artists. All proceeds from sales will be used to support the restoration of the portrait. Once the restoration is complete, not only will students at Eastern have the opportunity to appreciate the legacy of Mr. Walton, but also the Mainline community will have a piece of its history preserved.
